Building Tomorrow 2024

AI, People, and the Future of Commercial Real Estate

November 7, 2024 | Boston, MA

A first of its kind event.

Dear esteemed colleagues,

A new day is upon us.

For the past generation, the central focus of the commercial real estate industry has been on the value optimization of the buildings that make up our landscapes, cities and towns. The people that occupy those assets were often a secondary thought. In this post-COVID world, that is shifting and in a major way. Vacant offices and return to office debates have made it clear that buildings are constructed to occupy PEOPLE, and as such, PEOPLE must be at the center of our conversations and decision-making. This will be a large shift for the industry.

There’s another small development that is also shaping the future of our industry: Artificial Intelligence (AI). You may have heard of it by now. AI will permeate and impact every single facet of our industry, and frankly, our world.

I have had the honor of working in this industry over the past two decades in various roles, from General Counsel for a real estate developer to Head of Customer Success for an early stage PropTech company, and there is one thing I can say with certainty. You can build the greatest building or release the most fascinating software but neither mean anything without people using them. And with that, Building Tomorrow was born.

Building Tomorrow is a day-long workshop specifically curated to explore the intersection of these two incredible industries: commercial real estate and innovation & technology, and how the successful deployment of both can and will curate an unprecedented human-centric built environment of the future. This intimate event will feature diverse panels and interactive discussions with some of our industry’s greatest visionaries. We will focus on topics such as the roles of data, design-thinking, and technology. You will be invited to think differently and leave inspired with the tools necessary to create a new future within your organization.

Space is intentionally limited to 50 people so be sure to register today. I assure you, this is not a day to miss. The future is unwritten. Let’s design it together.

THE DAY’S LINEUP

  • Arrive at Sasaki's newly designed office located in downtown Boston, check-in, grab some breakfast, chat with folks, and settle in. The day's about to get good.

  • Join Nadine Ezzie and her CRE Unplugged Co-Host, Ryan Elazari, as they welcome workshop members and set the stage for the day to come.

  • Here's where it starts to get good.

JAMIE BARR from LANGAN will kick off the morning sessions with his incredible journey with AI. Nadine and Jamie will start with a brief fireside chat where Jamie takes us through his journey to AI (he's a Brownfield expert and heads Langan's environmental practice for New England). So how does a dirt guy become an AI guy? Jamie will guide us on that journey and share what Langan is doing to start its own journey with AI.

After a brief break, we're joined by MARIUS ANDREASEN from PwC. Marius is an expert in working with real estate and financial market companies and teams in leveraging innovation and AI. He will walk us step by step through a consulting journey and how problems and opportunities can be turned into innovative solutions (i.e., we get to learn the magic sauce).

Let's take another quick break and fuel up because next up is the powerhouse CTO/CIO duo of COLIN JOYNT of BXP and JOSHUA GLADSTEIN of BERKSHIRE RESIDENTIAL INVESTMENTS. Moderated by LISA NICKERSON of NICKERSON COS., this panel will guide us from data to innovation and the CTO/CIO's role in shaping the future of work and place.

  • After that morning, let's fuel up with some lunch and sit back while Nadine engages in a deep and engaging fireside chat with our keynote. Stay tuned!

  • To kickoff the afternoon, we're putting the spotlight on you. Architect MEREDITH MCCARTHY of SASAKI, with some help from NADINE EZZIE, is going to guide the audience through a brain-storming design session where YOU the workshop members will dig deep to think about what the ideal future office means to you. Leave with deep insights on what it means to leverage "design-thinking."

Let's take a break and come back to be joined by TIMOTHY GALE, Director of Product for SASAKI. Sasaki builds a lot of their tech solutions in-house and Timothy heads that. With the help of some visionary friends, Timothy will share with us what products Sasaki has launched and the impact aleady made. He's then going to give us a peack into his future experiments with GenAI/LLMs and how AI can be used to foster equitable community-based decision-making.

    With more to come!

  • Nadine Ezzie and Ryan Elazari will take the stage to close out the day, summarize the day's throught-provoking insights, and invite everyone to the cocktail party.

  • Grab a drink (or mocktail) and let's keep the conversations flowing.
